Put Your Money In Your Pocket And Not In The Gas Tank

Treasure Coast Connector encourages the community to ride public transportation

Tom Derzypolski

(Ft. Pierce, Fla.) - There's not a hurricane in sight, yet gas prices are already rising. Current prices at the pump are $2.60 / gallon along the Treasure Coast and industry forecasts prices to reach $2.75 / gallon by early summer - barring no natural disasters between now and then.

Since last summer's devastating hurricane season, people are looking for ways to save at the pump. Some are buying more fuel efficient vehicles or hybrids. Others are carpooling and a number of people are doing what metropolitan city residents have done for years - riding public transportation.

"It makes sense for people to ride the Treasure Coast Connector (TCC). It's a fact, riding public transportation saves people money, relieves traffic congestion and is better for our environment," said Marianne Arbore, Transit Director.

The TCC wants to remind the community that it costs only a dollar per trip to ride the bus. Routes throughout St. Lucie and Martin Counties carry passengers up and down US 1 to various locations, Indian River Community College, the Social Security office, WalMart, medical centers, golf courses and the St. Lucie County Library. Ride passes are also available for even greater savings.

To find out how you can start saving money, visit the TCC website at www.treasurecoastconnector.com or call 772-464-8878 in St. Lucie County or 772-286-8818 in Martin County.

The Treasure Coast Connector began operation in 2002 and now connects the communities of St. Lucie and Martin Counties with four fixed routes. Service is scheduled Monday through Friday between the hours of 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Treasure Coast Connector: Communities On The Move!
