Treasure Coast Connector Shows Significant Growth

2005 Ridership Numbers Shatter Previous Record

Tom Derzypolski

(Ft. Pierce, Fla.) - Representatives from the Treasure Coast Connector (TCC) celebrate a record-breaking ridership year. In December, 6,579 passengers boarded the Connector buses, bringing the 2005 year-end ridership total to 47,481 - a 59 percent increase from 2004.

"We are thrilled to see such significant growth over the past year," said Marianne Arbore, Transit Director. "These numbers are a clear indication that the system serves an important role in our community."

The TCC has been instrumental in offering safe, clean and affordable transportation for those affected by increased gas prices, living expenses and natural disasters along the Treasure Coast throughout the year. The system has worked to support the needs of the community by launching a new website, unveiling beautiful mosaic benches and adding two additional routes along the way. Support continues in early 2006 as the new Port St. Lucie Downtown trolley route starts on Jan. 30.

With ridership numbers increasing each and every month, the public transit system continues to roll forward into the New Year. "We would especially like to thank the riders and community, who continually show support for the system," Arbore said.

The Treasure Coast Connector began operation in 2002 and now connects the communities of St. Lucie and Martin Counties with three fixed routes. Service is scheduled Monday through Friday between the hours of 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. For more information call 722-464-8878 in St. Lucie County or 772-286-8818 in Martin County.
